What we see in Valley of the Moon pets

  • Grapes and raisins. At harvest time we get grape calls from vineyard families every year, so keep an eye on dogs in the rows. Grapes and raisins can cause sudden kidney failure in dogs, and there’s no known “safe” amount. If your dog eats any, call us right away.
  • Rattlesnakes, ticks and foxtails. Sugarloaf Ridge, Jack London State Historic Park and Sonoma Valley Regional Park are wonderful for dogs and are also rattlesnake and tick country. Our dog safety myths vs. facts explains what to do after a snake bite, and why to keep dogs on trail.
  • Wildfire smoke and evacuation. Glen Ellen lived through the 2017 Nuns Fire and Kenwood through the 2020 Glass Fire. Keep a pet go-bag ready. Our wildfire smoke guide has a checklist.
  • Wild mushrooms. The oak woodland in the valley grows dangerous mushrooms after fall rains. Read what to do if your dog ate a mushroom.

Care Kenwood and Glen Ellen families use most

Families from the valley often plan wellness exams and dental cleanings for one trip into town, and use our pharmacy for refills while they’re here. For sick pets, our in-house lab and digital X-ray help us find answers during the visit.
