What we see in country pets

  • Rat and mouse bait. Rodent bait is common around barns, sheds and feed rooms, and it’s one of the most frequent poisonings we see in dogs and cats. Some baits stop blood from clotting and others affect the brain. If your pet may have eaten bait, call right away and bring the package if you can.
  • Leptospirosis. Wildlife, livestock and rodents spread leptospirosis into ponds, troughs and mud. Ask us about the vaccine if your dog roams the property.
  • Ticks, foxtails and fence injuries. Pasture dogs pick up ticks and foxtails, and cuts from wire fencing are common. Small wounds can hide deep punctures.
  • Barn cats. Outdoor and barn cats benefit from spay or neuter, rabies and core vaccines, and regular parasite control.

Care Penngrove families use most

Penngrove families often see us for vaccines and parasite prevention, wound care and surgery, and senior care for older working dogs. We care for dogs and cats only, so please see a large-animal or equine vet for horses and livestock.
